Laurie and his wife Jacqueline now own the Artichoke Restaurant, where he is Head Chef. Set in the Old Town of Amersham, Buckinghamshire,it combines modern contemporary style with the charm of a 16th Century building and superb modern French cooking. The cuisine has a strong seasonal emphasis with well sourced high quality ingredients as well as showcasing a seven course tasting menu. He is a Master Chef of Great Britain and has received rave reviews for his innovative cuisine in the major restaurant guides including Michelin and listed in the section of Top Scorers in the Hardens UK Restaurants Guide. 'Laurie Gear is a formidable talent, mobilising tradition and contemporary fashion to a productive effect' Good Food Guide 2008 Laurie's cooking has received high praise from both media and fellow chef peers including Raymond Blanc, who has listed the Artichoke 'as one of his best restaurant discoveries in the last five years'. The Artichoke was thrilled to be awarded a UK's Best Dish Award 2007 by Restaurant Magazine for his Fennel Soup, Dorset Crab and Goats Curd Gnocchi, Cucumber Tagliatelle. He received the award whilst filming with the BBC last year in Australia. Laurie has also been appointed as Guest Chef to the Amersham Life Series Magazines and writes a monthly recipe feature. He also regularly hosts his unique styled courses at his friend Jean Christophe Novelli’s Cookery School at Tea Green, Hertfordshire and has presented several demonstrations at the Prestigious Tante Marie Cookery School.
