Lintran Junior Challenge

This is the 3rd year of the Lintran Junior challenge and it's being held at the Sandringham Country Fair over the weekend of 10th & 11th September 2011.

This is a test for dog and handler. The handler must be aged 16 years or under on the day of competition. It tests dog handling skills and tests the ability of the dog to retrieve a number of dummies as instructed by a Field Trial judge.

The event is in organised in conjunction with well-known retired gundog trainer to the Queen, Mr Bill Meldrum, Lintran and Living Heritage.

Qualification to receive an invitation is through Lintran, Mullenscote gundogs and Scurrybandits.

The junior must show that they can control their dog in the execution of retrieving dummies from a given point in a manner that demonstrates the handlers and dogs skill without outside help and without assistance in the arena.

This is an invitation only event.

Saturday

The day starts with the junior handlers walking with the judges and fellow competitors around the working Test, which is being run by Mr Meldrum and his helpers at Sandringham.

At lunch time, the juniors can attend a question and answer session, where they can get all sorts of advice from the judges about dogs, trailing and working tests. Competitors can chat to each other about the morning and what is about to follow.

In 2010 the working test was lucky enough to have the help and guidance of quite a few knowledgable judges. A similar number will be available to assist and advise competitors in 2011.

The gundog scurries will be run all day for the juniors to compete in.

Sunday

The juniors are invited to run in a scurry final at the fair.

Retrieves against the clock format has yet to be finalised. The junior handlers are invited to run in the Lintran Challenge Final under the guidance of Mr Meldrum and the estate in a working test.

The best juniors from the morning get to compete for a trophy in the afternoon.

Prizes are curtesy of the Sandringham Estate, Lintran and the Scurrybandits.

Last year saw 14 junior handlers, hopefully there will be more this year. Jodie Sharpe and Callie her little Springer Spaniel have won the event for the last 2 years. Jodie is going for a hat trick but others may try to steal her crown and challenge hard, including Dan Ward with Mica the black Labrador.

Lintran Junior Challenge will be appearing at the following shows:

Sorry, no shows available, please check back soon.
