The Countryside Marquee

Country matters

The Countryside Marquee plays host to an interesting mix of skilled rural carftsmen and societies who talk, demonstrate and show some of the traditions and old country ways of the rural community. The exhibits and skills show examples of some of the following:

Chris Smith demonstrates his fly tying techniques and displays his collection of flies; Wendy Doherty talks and demonstrates different mediums involved in her painting.

Others in the marquee are, the Newcastle Wildfowlers display, Dougie's leatherwork demonstrations and Dave Smith with his hawk. The talks from Dave are about the care of hawks and how he works

with hawks.

There is a net making demostration with Andy Kelly and a photographic display by The Braes of Derwent Hunt supporters and a display of traps and methods of pest control by Pied Piper Pest Control.

John Vickers, from the Woodland Trust, gives a talk and displays information about woodland issues and the RSPB is there too with Mike Harris giving the talks.

Ed Norman talks about the fascinating and topical art of bee keeping. The North East Ferret Rescue are bringing ferrets with them and they'll talk about the care of ferrets and about how they are used in pest control.
