Show InformationBurghley Game, Country & Angling Fair, May 23 to May 25, 2009The show is now in its 2nd year. It made a good start last year being one of the few shows to benefit from good weather. The Show was a great success last year, with all of the usual attractions and demonstrations that have are associated with Living Heritage Game and Country Fairs. From Arena events such as Scurry Driving, MGA (Mounted Games Association), Gun Dog Displays, Falconry and Ferrets. Visit the Falconry Village with over 80 birds of prey and a dedicated Arena with specialist displays including the birds of Africa. Enter your Dog into one of the many events and Shows, including the Lurcher and Terrier Racing / Showing or Chase The Bunny for the family pet. Have a go at the Gun Dog Multiscurry which is open to all dogs or enter them into the Fun Dog Show. Why not Have are Go at Archery, Air Guns or even the Clay Pigeon Shooting. This years event will use similar but extended format to 2008. Demonstrations by noted anglers covering a wide range of fishing types.The line up will be published on this site when finalized. A wide range of tuition is available so you can learn how to fish with The Angling Trust coaching team, The Salmon and Trout Association and The Game Angling Instructors Association. Competitions feature again with the Amature and Open Speycasting Competitons and the Distance and Accuracy Casting Competitions Running over the weekend. Other attractions at this show:Venue InformationBurghley is one of the largest and grandest houses of the first Elizabethan Age. Built and mostly designed by William Cecil, Lord High Treasurer to Queen Elizabeth I, between 1555 and 1587, the main part of the House has 35 major rooms on the ground and first floors. There are more than 80 lesser rooms and numerous halls, corridors, bathrooms and service areas. The lead roof extends to three quarters of an acre, restoration and rebuilding of which began in 1983 and took nearly ten years to complete. Visitor facilities include the Orangery Restaurant, Gift Shop, Gardens of Surprise and beautiful walks around the historic parkland laid out by Capability Brown and still occupied by a herd of fallow deer. History can come alive in a single trip whether it is to enjoy a guided tour, take your dog for a walk in the park, take the children to paddle or see the Teddy Bear’s picnic in the Gardens of Surprise or take time over lunch in the Orangery.
