Cheshire Game & Country Fair, Aug 25 to Aug 27, 2012

Now in its 5th year the Cheshire Game & Country Fair goes from strength to strength. Two action - packed, entertaining arenas have a full programme of events, with everything from scurry racing and fun sheepdog and ducks to majestic falconry and co-ordinated Gundog displays and also the:

The Falconry Village has native and some more exotic Birds of Prey, all waiting for the chance to stretch their wings and fly! The Craft Village comes complete with a working demonstration, beautiful contemporary and traditional arts and crafts. Food Glorious Food is perfect for food lovers. Chefs cook up some tasty delights and regional producers sell delicous food and drink.

A special feature is the 8th English Open Chainsaw Carving Competition. Competitors arrive from across the globe to take part in a series of competitions -creating art with chainsaws. Carvers come from Croatia, Denmark, Equador, Germany, Italy, Japan, Sweden and the USA, along with home grown carvers from England, Scotland and Wales!

The two main competitions are the 'Classic' and the 'Combo', with 30 minute speed carvings taking place daily. The finished carved art is auctioned daily.

The show's arenas are encompassed by an array of country and craft stalls, selling everything from country clothing and accessories to handcrafted art and regional food and drink.

Children can throw a pot and make a face or 'Learn How To' fish with the Angling Trust, handle a gundog and get close to a hawk.

If that sounds a little too exhausting, relax in the food courts around the show. Enjoy British classics and tasty treats.

Dog events are an important part of Living Heritage's fairs, so quite a few dog events and demonstrations are held at each Fair. Every dog and every owner should find something of interest, from simply seeking advice or watching specialist demonstrations, to entering a pet dog into the Fun Dog Show.

For more competitive dogs and owners, taking part in the pedigree dog shows or Lurcher racing or Chase the Bunny (pure fun) or working tests or the Gundog Multiscurry should fit the bill!

Target Field Sports

Exceptional tuition, competiton and 'Have a Go' sessions at every country fair. Target field sports are fun and waiting to be enjoyed!

Target Field Sports are traditionally associated with hunting and pest control, although nowadays, the sports are mostly done for fun.

At Living Heritage Game and Country Fairs, visitors are welcome to come have have a go at all of the target sports on the day. As well as beginners, the more experienced can enter a series of competitions. (see local press for details)

Throw a pot, make a face and have some fun!

Crafts have always been present at the fairs, originally as a small craft area, and has been built up over the years to include specialist demonstrations areas such as glassblowing, rural skills, Blacksmiths and chainsaw carving. Today, the craft area is a show within a show. An integral part of the fairs.
