Sandringham Game & Country Fair, Sep 08 to Sep 09, 2012
The Sandringham Game and Country Fair is now in its 6th year and just gets better. This year sees new attractions added to some old favourites:
The Sandrinham fair has three entertaining arenas with all day displays, cometitons and top country demonstrations to enjoy. And the events and attractions throughout is breathtaking! Just look at this.
The majestic Falconry Village, thrilling scurry racing, graceful heavy horses, chefs on stage, sumptuous food & drink, gundog working, fun family dog shows, hilarious sheepdog and duck displays, popular lurcher events, free fishing, free 'Have a Go' sessions and there's more!
Rural crafts, art and crafts, clayshooting and archery. Endless country stalls for shopping. Superb chainsaw art carving and country competitions. A children's wonderland where they can throw a pot, make a face and watch puppets as well.
Gundogs are a big part of the Sandringham Estate history, so at Sandringham the finals of the Gundog Multiscurry take place along with several other dog events including; the Working Gundog Retriever test & scurry, run by Bill Meldrum (former gundog trainer to HRH the Queen) and Lurcher racing finals with a Red Mills 1000 guineas prize.
Children can throw a pot and make a face or 'Learn How To' fish with the Angling Trust, handle a gundog and get close to a hawk.
Beautifully restored steam engines, stationary engines and a wide selection of vintage vehicles feature at Sandringham. The Falconry Village, with many of the UK's native Birds of Prey, along with some exotic visitors is a wonderful and memorable experience.
Other attractions included are, the Craft Village complete with a working demonstration area, Food Glorious Food where chefs cook up a variety of tasty and healthy dishes and demonstrate how to cook game.
Endless country and craft shoping awaits with country clothing, art & carfts, and some wonderful food and drink from local and regional producers.
And take time to relax in the Piazza with its British favourites, tasty treats and healthy options.

The Falconry Village has two aims; To give visitors the thrill of spectacular flying displays, creating memories to last a lifetime! To create a wonderful area where visitors meet the world of falconry, where they can enjoy and explore all aspects of falconry including health, welfare and legal issues.

Barking up the right tree!
The ever popular Dog Zone is fun, fast and furious! Every dog and every owner is sure to find something to join in with, watch and thoroughly enjoy.
Dog events are an important part of Living Heritage's fairs, so quite a few dog events and demonstrations are held at each Fair. Every dog and every owner should find something of interest, from simply seeking advice or watching specialist demonstrations, to entering a pet dog into the Fun Dog Show.
For more competitive dogs and owners, taking part in the pedigree dog shows or Lurcher racing or Chase the Bunny (pure fun) or working tests or the Gundog Multiscurry should fit the bill!

Exceptional tuition, competiton and 'Have a Go' sessions at every country fair. Target field sports are fun and waiting to be enjoyed!
Target Field Sports are traditionally associated with hunting and pest control, although nowadays, the sports are mostly done for fun.
At Living Heritage Game and Country Fairs, visitors are welcome to come have have a go at all of the target sports on the day. As well as beginners, the more experienced can enter a series of competitions. (see local press for details)

Throw a pot, make a face and have some fun!
Crafts have always been present at the fairs, originally as a small craft area, and has been built up over the years to include specialist demonstrations areas such as glassblowing, rural skills, Blacksmiths and chainsaw carving. Today, the craft area is a show within a show. An integral part of the fairs.

It's fun to learn
Introduce your children to some popular country sports, free of charge, with 20 minute lessons in the ‘Learn how to’ section of the country fair.
At the fairs children can experience first-hand for themselves, a variety of country life pursuits and skills with experts to guide them .

The Vintage Vehicle Section covers a wide variety of vintage vehicles and machinery. From classic cars and bikes to impressive Steam Engines, Tractors, Miniatures and Stationary Engines. All of which were great inventions of their time, well thought of and have been cherished and looked after by enthusiasts for generations.
Clubs and Associations display these wonderful vehicles and machinery at a number of local events.

Throughout the Series of Living Heritage Game and Country Fairs, there are a series of competitions. Each Show will have its own heat with the winners of each competition for each discipline being invited to take part in the Final.
The Final will be held at a designated Show and will not be necessarily held at the Final Show of the Season. This may be due to venue restrictions or the competition organiser’s choice. Please see Show Details or ask competition organisers for further information.

The House
Built in 1870 by the Prince and Princess of Wales, later King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra, Sandringham was once described as 'the most comfortable house in England'. It has been passed down as a private home through four generations of British monarchs and is now the country retreat of Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh.
The main ground floor rooms, regularly used by the Royal Family, are open to the public and the decor and contents remain very much as they were in Edwardian times. Both Queen Alexandra and later Queen Mary were great collectors of objets d'art hence the profusion of porcelain, jade and crystal oriental figures. Members of the Russian and European Royal Families were frequent guests at Sandringham and brought gifts of enamel, silver and silver-gilt: Kaiser Wilhelm I of Germany gave a fine Dresden porcelain chandelier and mirror frame. Furniture was commissioned from the London firm of Holland & Sons by the Prince and Princess of Wales. The walls are hung with family portraits by the leading contemporary court painters: Heinrich von Angeli, Sir Luke Fildes, Franz Winterhalter and Edward Hughes. An important collection of oriental arms and armour is housed at Sandringham, brought back from the Far East and India in 1876.
