Game angling in the United Kingdom is a hugely diverse sport relying on a wide range of river and stillwater habitats, a collective resource which is at the mercy of matters beyond the single angler’s control – excessive water abstraction, land management practices, drainage, diffuse pollution, urban run-off and inadequately treated sewage, together with the inevitable confrontation between different water users in an overcrowded island. It is more important than ever, therefore, that game anglers have a strong and effective organisation representing them when decisions are taken over the management and conservation of our wetlands.

The Angling Trust

The Angling Trust is the governing body for freshwater angling in England. We actively promote and encourage angling development from grass roots, through clubs and regional bodies to the International squads.

It is a fun and healthy sport enjoyed by millions of people throughout the UK every year. Anglers not only go fishing to catch fish but also because they enjoy and appreciate the environment in which it takes place.

The free Coaching sessions at Burghley Angling Show offer new and experienced anglers to appreciate and respect the environment using the interesting, fun, enjoyable and interactive learning method by way of angling.

The Game Anglers Instructors Association

Game angling is generally used to describe fly fishing for salmon, sea trout, trout and grayling. The Game Anglers Instructors Association members are qualified to teach in aspects of fly fishing, ranging from fly fishing for trout, grayling and sea trout, fishing for the mighty salmon or how to tie the flies used when fly fishing.

if you are a complete beginner looking to get started in the wonderful world of game angling, or an experienced fly fisher looking to improve or extend your fly casting, fishing or fly tying skills, come along and meet the instructors  today with free lessons and take a step into, or further into, the exciting world of fly fishing.

The British Antique and Vintage Tackle Fair

Now many anglers and enthusiasts including the younger generations would like to use older and traditional items of tackle, but are not sure where to find them.

With this in mind Living Heritage will once again feature the " British Antique and Vintage Tackle Fair " as an intergrated event during 2009. where tackle can be bought, sold, swapped or just admired; a veritable "antique roadshow" style of event.

Peter Johnson, a retired professional rod maker associated with Living Heritage for many years giving live demonstrations on the making of spilt cane traditional rods along with his pal angling historian and author Phil Waller, both set up a display of old tackle and related items, giving help and advice to the many people, the angler, aficionados and those in antiques both dealers and collectors can go and view, buy, swap and sell or get advice on any item of fishing tackle.

Peter and Phil will be joined by Phill Croft in a free rod clinic giving advice, maintance and repair to any item of fishing tackle.
